What does this PR do?

Motivation

We want to modify the agent.py script to take into account integrations missing a manifest.json (which is becoming the new standard).

The current script and cache are making the Agent ship without these integrations.

Could you elaborate on what kind of changes need to invalidate the cache? This could be OK but since you also mention a manifest.json file, I'm a bit unsure what the expected behavior is

@chouquette The manifest.json was referring to the integration manifests in integrations-core. The agent.py task collects the integrations that are supposed to be packaged with the agent and expects this file to be present.

#49553 modifies the task so that it handles the missing manifest.json files in integrations-core properly.

Therefore I think we only need changes to the agent.py task logic to invalidate the cache.

I hope this answers the question!

I think this is an acceptable change, though it could be better if either:

  • The relevant code was moved out of tasks/agent.py into something more specific to the integrations.
  • The relevant code was actually part of integrations-core, such that this would be covered by the use of the integrations-core hash as part of the cache key.

Worthy of note is that some of the code in question might need to be called from Bazel pretty soon, regardless of whether it stays in python or it ends up being migrated to Starlark.

Explanation

Confidence level: 90.00%
Effect size tolerance: |Δ mean %| ≥ 5.00%

Performance changes are noted in the perf column of each table:

  • ✅ = significantly better comparison variant performance
  • ❌ = significantly worse comparison variant performance
  • ➖ = no significant change in performance

A regression test is an A/B test of target performance in a repeatable rig, where "performance" is measured as "comparison variant minus baseline variant" for an optimization goal (e.g., ingress throughput). Due to intrinsic variability in measuring that goal, we can only estimate its mean value for each experiment; we report uncertainty in that value as a 90.00% confidence interval denoted "Δ mean % CI".

For each experiment, we decide whether a change in performance is a "regression" -- a change worth investigating further -- if all of the following criteria are true:

  1. Its estimated |Δ mean %| ≥ 5.00%, indicating the change is big enough to merit a closer look.

  2. Its 90.00% confidence interval "Δ mean % CI" does not contain zero, indicating that if our statistical model is accurate, there is at least a 90.00% chance there is a difference in performance between baseline and comparison variants.

  3. Its configuration does not mark it "erratic".
