Now I'm getting this multiple times (with different values and labels):

Are you on x86_64-apple-darwin? This may be related to its recent demotion to tier 2.

Edit: This reproduces on another machine, so I think that’s irrelevant.

I bisected it to between nightly-2025-08-13 and nightly-2025-08-14. Of the changes between those versions, the update of LLVM to 21.1.0 rc3 looks to be the most likely culprit.

I think the new error happened because the binary is too large.

This seems to be fixed on the latest nightly. Oddly enough, it was fixed by this PR. At first glance, I don't see an immediate connection between sorting symbols and code size.

Yeah, this issue is fixed for me and bootloader now builds for nightly-2025-08-24 to nightly-2025-08-29. A separate issue (rust-lang/rust#145699) additionally prevented building on nightly-2025-08-23.
