What's pulled into context when a new session starts?

For various reasons I have a few docs/.md files running around in my repo, and I want to know what exactly Codex is reading as context when I start a new session in my repo. AGENTS.md gets pulled in for sure. But what else? How can I see and control what is being prefilled in the context once I start a new session?

If you want to see exactly what's pulled in, you can open one of the rollout files under ~/.codex/sessions. They are in .jsonl format and can be opened in a text editor.

Thanks! I looked at one of the sessions. There are of course quite a few lines in the .jsonl. To have an idea of what's pulled in at the beginning of the conversation, is it enough to look at the first few lines up to and including the first json object where "payload" is of type {"type":"user_message"..}? In my case, these would be:

Keep neural-ROI-only policy and strip-only OCR path while improving correctness.\n2. Reduce `mismatch` errors by tuning strip preprocessing and candidate ranking (especially hard confusion cases like `8/3/1/7`).\n3. Reduce `branch:roi-uncertain` by improving candidate generation/selection consistency across ROI rotations.\n4.
