Why Rust?

Hello. I've noticed that 96% of the code of this project is written in Rust. While I'm enthusiastic about Rust by myself I want to ask, why Rust and not Go?

Rust is a systems programming language. It's more complex and as far as I know it's less productive in application programming. Go is much simpler, more productive and seems much more suitable for developing tools like Codex CLI.

Maybe I'm wrong, please explain.

I believe that to properly answer your question, one would need to explain OpenAI's internal strategy regarding Codex and their vision for its future. Then we'd have to debate the efficiency of Rust in handling network requests, low-level operations, latency, and the merits of choosing Rust over Go for each specific task Codex addresses. If all of that were to actually happen and such a conversation took place — what would it ultimately lead to? Where would it all end up?

I simply want to know the real reasons behind this architectural decision. Your assumptions about why and where this conversation might lead don't really answer my question and are more suitable for starting a flame war, which is not my goal. I am interested in the technical 'why', not a debate.
