Player colors are assigned randomly. In free for all, everyone gets a full saturation color, determined by golden ratio increase along a balanced hue wheel. Glow, shield, phaser color and so on matches the ship color.
In team play, glow and so on are orange and blue uniform for the whole team and reddish (yellow, pink, orange, ...) for the orange team and blueish (green, blue, violet) for the blue team.
The colors somehow reflect in the controller design.
