Feature: Set a custom icon for connections

I have a lot of connections that all have the same icon since they're all the same database type:

It would be nice if I could set a custom icon for each to differentiate between them.

Absolutely. I've been working on adding clickhouse support and my usual goto of 'use my same icon but slightly different coloured' was leading me to custom icon thoughts along the way.

I need to do some research on the best way to sync them between devices but this will be coming to an upcoming build soon. Can't commit on timeframe until I start investigating further but it will be high up on the priority list.

I have submitted a build for this:

At the moment you would need to right click a connection and use the context menu (rather than directly in the edit connection). I plan on re-doing all of the edit connection screens in swift/swiftui at some point, so it will get moved directly into those windows at that point.

Going to leave this open, as I still need to finish iOS support as well.

I think that's a great baseline until it can be in the connection settings, but how hard would it be to also support dragging an image file onto a connection as a way of setting it? That would speed up adding a bunch at once considerably.

Hmmm, unfortunately I think I would be a no go on that. The connections window currently handles re-ordering connections via drag and drop and it's... shaky to say the best to get that to work especially with support for multiple groups. I believe getting it so one could drag an icon into a specific connection to set it without breaking anything would be quite a challenge. Plus the fact that icon setup would generally be a 'one and done' thing weighs into that as well. I don't believe the effort + possible stability hit to it would be worthwhile.

So for now I would say give this a try (once approved by setapp) and see what you think. If your still finding it to be a hassle let me know and I can rethink it.

That totally makes sense - I just thought it was worth throwing out as another option!

2026.77 is available via setapp and supports the setting icons. If you get the chance, could you give this a try and let me know if that sorts things out?
