Good news — I investigated the current v3 DefinitionCompiler and this behaviour appears to be fixed in the current codebase. Both $ref and allOf: [$ref] patterns to primitive-type aliases are correctly resolved to their underlying primitive types (e.g. PhoneNumber: type: string → string, not obj).

The relevant code path in src/SwaggerProvider.DesignTime/v3/DefinitionCompiler.fs:

• A property with $ref: '#/components/schemas/PhoneNumber' is an OpenApiSchemaReference, which the compiler delegates to compileByPath (line ~434).
• compileByPath then compiles the PhoneNumber schema, which has type: string, returning typeof(string) directly.
• The same logic applies to the allOf: [$ref] pattern (line ~462).

If you're still seeing obj on a current version (2.3.x), please reopen with a minimal repro schema — it's possible the issue only affects certain edge cases (e.g. cross-document references, which are not yet supported).
