Portal

https://getportal.org/

What I am looking for

  • A frontend/mobile dev with experience in Android/iOS development and web frontend development (Vue.js preferred) and who has a strong passion for good UX to make unfamiliar models accessible.
  • A business/marketing person to take care of all non-development aspects fo the project. Basically someone to cover developers backs so they can get their heads down and code. In particular, good communication skills are needed because this has turned out to be particularly challenging.

Short Project Description

Portal is the cloud computer for everyone.
Cloud computers have been a tool for professionals for some time so the technology is ready. Bringing them to iPhone levels of usability and ease would be transformative!
End-users would rent a single Portal which would be always-on, always-online but still their totally private space (surveillance capitalism: reduced).
They could have all their data there and install all needed apps through an app-store (hundreds of passwords: no need).
Their Portal looks the same no matter from which device they access it (sync between devices: solved).
So we combine the best of the cloud with the best of local devices and eliminate downsides of both.

One more thing: I've been working on the prototype for quite some time beside the job and it has progressed nicely. I would say, MVP should be about 70% done. But it is a beast, much more effort to create a platform compared to an application.

Team Bios

Currently just me, Max von Tettenborn. German software developer with about 7 years of professional experience.

Why Work With Us

Portal tackles some important challenges that patterns of current computer usage have. It has the potential to reduce the constant flow of behavioural data to big-tech companies that is so immensely dangerous for society. So there is a good make-the-wold-better case here.
Additionally, creating a platform from scratch is very interesting and challenging from a technical perspective. So far out-of-the-box, there are not many existing best-practices. So working on it is definitely not boring.
