How can i get deacon to look in a shared folder of my choice?

We have it installed on a shared HPC system using conda, and io would like the database files to surviveconda upgraces.

A common pattern is a env-var like $DEACCON_INDEX_DIR

I think you can just provide a full path to the index file, which can be anywhere?
(Or you could make a symlink but it'd be deleted by cobra as well )

Is providing a full path as Ragnar suggested viable for your use case Torsten? Whereas Hostile has index management with a customisable cache dir, for now Deacon keeps things simple and just takes a path to the index, and should follow symlinks. Whereas sequence input to deacon filter is not restricted to paths, which may be streamed via stdin or process substitution.
